Trotter had a great start to his show career. At three months and one week old, he was placed fifth in the McDonald's Grand Puppy Stakes at CKA at Show Weekend. He went Baby Puppy in Show at the CCTC show the following day, judge breed specialist Al Ferruggiaro (USA).
